Video contest!
Tell tri-state to tri-harder!

The decisions made today about what new resources Tri-State will build and buy to provide power in the future will have long-lasting impacts that will be felt for generations. Today’s youth will benefit from the aggressive pursuit of new wind, solar and battery storage. They will also be paying for whatever resources Tri-State is ultimately allowed to acquire, and that includes the possibility of covering the hundreds of millions of dollars in costs for a new fossil gas power plant … even if that plant is not used because clean energy resources are far more affordable.

The best way to let the Public Utilities Commission know that costly gas is not an option is to submit a public comment, and some of the strongest voices are those who will bear the future costs of decisions made today, you, today’s youth, many of whom are not yet even old enough to vote!

But you still have a voice, and we want you to use it in ways that move the PUC and that you are adept at. That means video!

We are hosting a combined video contest and public comment drive to give youth who get their power from one of Tri-State’s member rural electric cooperatives a chance to be heard on this pivotal issue.

The comment letter below lays out the basics of why it’s important for Tri-State and the PUC to go 100% renewable and keep any new gas out of the mix! It has a serious message. Make the video memorable by putting your own personal stamp and creativity into the message.

Here’s the basics of what we’re looking for:

  • A short video, 30 seconds or less.

  • Themed around this year’s Earth Day motif: “Our Power, Our Planet.”

  • Must emphasize the idea of "NO NEW GAS."

  • You must briefly incorporate the proceeding number in your video: Docket No. 23A-0585E.

  • No profanity.

  • No dangerous or illegal activities.

  • And the best part, there are cool prizes for the three best submissions.

  • You can sign the letter without submitting a video, but if you choose to enter the video contest, you must agree to include your name on the public comment letter.

Click here to add your name to the comment letter and share the link to any videos you may have made. You are welcome to submit multiple videos by filling out the form for each one, but your name will only be added to the comment letter once.
